Inquiring Minds – Science, Technology, History, Geography
Inquiring Minds relates to the children’s everyday experiences and involves children learning how to explore and interact with all aspects of their environment. This may include their homes, schools, families, neighbourhoods, cultures, events and the wider world.
Children are naturally curious and are filled with wonder and fascination of the world around them and they need opportunities to explore, experiment, manipulate, create, and learn about the world around them.
Primus Schoolhouse teachers play a critical role in facilitating the processes involved in helping children to satisfy their curiosities and excite them to make more discoveries. This curriculum area helps children widen their knowledge and acquire the essential skills and understanding to make sense of the world around them. It aims at sustaining children’s natural curiosity to explore the world and lays the foundation for learning in geography, history and science.
People and Communities
Looking at our world with a scientific eye. Children explore similarities and differences in relation to places, objects, materials and living things. They talk about the features of their own immediate environment and how environments might vary one another. They make observations of animals and plants and explain why some things occur, and talk about changes. Learning scientific vocabulary as we observe, inquire, question, predict, hypothesise, review and conclude our investigations.
The World

Technology
Primus Schoolhouse children recognise that a range of technology is used in places such as homes and schools. They select and use technology for particular purposes. At Primus Schoolhouse, we acknowledge that knowing how to use technology is a necessary skill however, we do believe that the children encounter technology in their everyday lives so this is not an emphasis for us.. Our Curriculum Framework encourages technology to be used in developmentally appropriate ways and complement – not substitute – concrete activities like arts and crafts or outdoor play. Children at Primus Schoolhouse have the opportunity to explore coding and robotics through the enrichment programme.
